A LA RECHERCHE DU CENTRE DU MONDE

In Search of the Center of the World. The man has always been seduced by the idea of centrality and geographers can't be an exception. This study proposes an analysis of shifting the population gravity center on a worldwide, continental and regional basis starting from the Neolithic up to the present day. Calculated according to the centroid model, this center expresses the point in which the demographical forces are being balanced at a certain moment. Generally, this center has moved from west to east on a planetary scale untill the modern era. After 1900, the demographical explosion in Africa and South America has imposed a north to south orientation that's always today the center of the world is situated in the Rub'al Khali Desert from the Arabian Peninsula. At a continental level a discrepancy has been observed, every continent shifting its gravity center towards an opposite direction: Europe towards north, Asia towards east or Africa towards south. This exercise of imaginary geography may be seen obsolete but expresses the way in which the world settlement process has been achieved in time.

BETWEEN TOURISM AND MIGRATION, COMPLEX AND RENEWED INTERNATIONAL MOBILITIES IN A GLOBALISING ERA

Olivier DEHOORNE

UniversitéAntilles-Guyane, France, e-mail: dehoorneo@hotmail.com Alexandru ILIE Ş University of Oradea, Department of Geography, Tourism and Territorial Planning, 5 Armata Romana St, 410087 Oradea, Romania, e-mail: ilies @ uoradea.ro

Hassan AFRAKHTEH

Departament of Geography, Sistan & Baluchestan University, Iran, e-mail: haafra2001 @ yahoo.com

Border and its Impact on the Spatial and Social Structure of Zahedan Urban Area. The urban area of Zahedan is located in the Sistan & Baluchestan province, southeastern part of Iran. Zahedan is most important urban center of this province, with about 548000 inhabitants. The eastern parts of the area are the borderland of Pakistan & Afghanistan. The border commission specified this bordeline according the plan of Goldsmith in September 1871. The above borderlands have huge potentialities and facilities including migration possibilities and cross border exchange opportunities. The study shows that the spatial and social structure of Zahedan area are highly affected from borderland potentialities as follows: development of urban centers of Zahedan & Mirjaveh, development of unofficial cross-border exchange, extension of special urban places concerned in selling second hand and luxury goods and extension of unplanned spaces in the urban fringe.
